The opening of the Zugspitze’s state-of-the-art cable car in 2017 was soon followed by a further milestone in food-service on Germany’s highest mountain: an innovative and unparalleled food-service concept reflecting the Zugspitze’s stunning panoramic views that span four countries. At an altitude of 2,962 metres, the “Panorama 2962” restaurant delights guests with first-class design, cuisine and Dallmayr coffee specialities.

“The best from 4 countries” is the motto of the new culinary concept at the mountain peak. Guests indulge in products from Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Germany – accompanied by a fine selection of high-quality speciality hot drinks from Dallmayr. The use of regional, organic or Fairtrade certified products are an important component of the food-service concept.

Germany’s highest coffee pleasure

The partnership between Alois Dallmayr Kaffee oHG and Bayerische Zugspitzbahn for the supply of hot beverages has been in place since 2008. And just in time for the partnership’s 10th anniversary, the cooperation was crowned with the opening of Dallmayr’s very own coffee bar. The new Dallmayr bar is incorporated into the counter area. Its large lounge invites guests to relax and enjoy the sensation of being almost 3,000 metres above sea level – all while savouring a good cup of coffee and soaking up the panoramic views through the large glass façade.

The modern red tiles that decorate the walls provide a wonderful setting for coffee pleasure “at the top of Germany”. Equipped with a Faema Emblema three-group espresso machine, the bar impresses guests with premium-quality coffee. In line with the new and modern food-service concept, the bar serves Dallmayr Via Verde Café Creme and Via Verde Espresso – both organic and Fairtrade products.

A further coffee bar with seating areas and moveable lounge furniture invites visitors to relax and take in the fresh air on the unique terrace at the summit .

“We receive a high volume of hot beverage orders in all areas of food-service, and both our quality standards and those of our guests are very high. Coffee lovers in particular are becoming more and more discerning and expect the very best. So we’re very proud to have further strengthened the long-standing cooperation with our hot-beverage partner Dallmayr to satisfy this demand for high quality. For example, setting up a coffee machine at an altitude of 2,962 metres is no easy task – but it was a challenge that Dallmayr mastered wonderfully. Dallmayr was also a valuable innovative partner during the conception phase, and impressed us with their fresh and inspirational ideas. Their advice went far beyond their expertise in hot beverages. They helped us with the bar’s design and with merchandise,” says Klaus Schanda, Head of Sales, Marketing & Communication at the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn.

Dallmayr as a creative mind

“Our strength lies in the personal consultations we have with each of our customers, which allows us to develop completely unique solutions and individual concepts that we can then implement together. The opening of the new food-service concept on the Zugspitze is the crowning moment of our many years of cooperation. We are delighted to be part of the Zugspitze family and wish the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn continued success,” says Christian Kania, Head of Sales Southeast at Dallmayr.

A lasting impression

Part of the overall concept was the development of eye-catching merchandise such as a high-quality Dallmayr Zugspitze coffee blend, individually branded enamel mugs with a modern design, as well as a set of two black espresso cups with the Panorama 2962 logo. This allows guests to take their wonderful experience home with them – making the visit something to remember.

New & creative

Visitors to the Zugspitze enjoy an innovative food and drinks concept with an open hybrid kitchen. Guests choose their items in the self-service counter area – with sensational views and a great atmosphere guaranteed. The restaurant is split up into five areas and offers space for around 450 guests indoors and some 850 guests outside.

Art series by Ameli Neureuther

In addition to the culinary experience in impressive natural and architectural surroundings, there is also time to enjoy some art. Ameli Neureuther, a renowned illustrator who grew up at the foot of the mountain, has designed a four-part panoramic image that represents a new interpretation of app art and shows the diverse range of leisure activities on the Zugspitze. This eye-catching picture can be admired in the lounge area and on the Ameli cup edition.
